In Project Insight Actual and Billable Hours exist within Time Entries. These Time Entries can be managed directly from the Project Task List or Gantt Chart, as well as a Task Report.
Before You Begin
Ensure you have the Time Tracking & Time Sheets Add-On Installed in your system.
- For more information on installing Add-Ons visit: How to Install Add-Ons in Project Insight (Free, Pro, Business Version)
You also need to ensure that Billable and Actual Hours are columns on your Task List, if they aren't add them by right clicking the top row of your Project's Task List, click Insert and select Actual Hours and Billable Hours
Viewing Time Entries From a Task
- Locate the desired task in the Task List, Gantt Chart, or Task Report.
- Find the Actual Hours or Billable Hours cell for that task.
- Click the cell.
- A table opens showing the individual time entries that make up the displayed total.
Adding Time to a Task
While in the Time Entry table from the previous step you have the option to inline add Time Entries. When you're done creating a Time Entry for the Task be sure to click the save icon on the far right of the row. This can also be used to add Time to Tasks with no prior Time Entries as seen below.
Editing Existing Time Entries
To edit a Time Entry view a Task that already has Time Entries. Click on any of these Time Entries to inline edit it and go through the same process you would when creating a new Time Entry.
- Note: Time entries associated with an Approved Timesheet cannot be edited from this interface. Entries that have not yet been included on an approved timesheet may still be editable.
In this example I edited Kyle Crane's Time Entry by reducing his Actual Hours from 12 to 8
Why Use This Method?
- Faster when reviewing multiple tasks.
- No need to repeatedly navigate into individual Task Display pages.
- Makes it easy to move from task to task while reviewing or updating time.
- Convenient for project managers or users working from task-oriented reports/views.
