Comment Options Add-On

Overview of how to manage Comments to add/edit and Types in which you may report on.

Today, we'll be talking about the Comment Options add-on in Project Insight. The Comment Options add-on allows you to enable and disable features related to comments. For more information about comments in general, you can access our existing documentation and videos on the subject.

To begin, from the homepage, you'll navigate to Add-ons. If you don't already have the Comment Options add-on installed, it will be listed under "Get More Add-ons." However, if you do have it installed, it will be under "Installed Add-ons." For more information about installing and accessing add-ons, you can refer to our existing documentation and videos on the subject.

We'll scroll down to the Comment Options add-on, click "Configure," and we're brought to the comment settings page. Going over the settings, the first option, "Enable Reply To," allows users to reply to comments. The second option, "Enable Users the Ability to Edit/Delete Their Own Comments," is self-explanatory; it allows users to edit or delete their own comments. The "Enable File Upload" option allows files to be uploaded into comments. The "Enable Email Replies" comment is a preview feature that allows email replies to be used as comments. Lastly, "Enable Pin to Top" allows you to pin comments to the top of an item, meaning that they will still appear in the comment section but will be displayed above all other unpinned comments.

Another feature of the Comment Options add-on is comment types. To access comment types, you'll click on "Types" on the comment settings page, which takes you to the comment types page. These five headings indicate the type of item that the comment type will be associated with. Think of comment types like the subject line of an email. For example, if I go to Task Status comments, you can see that we have this request type, which indicates at a glance that this comment is a request.

Now that we have all the features and comment settings enabled, apart from the preview feature that allows email replies to be used as comments, we can add a new comment type. We will type something in the comment body, and as you can see, you can also drag a file into the comment, which we enabled in comment settings. We can set the comment type to "Request" and click "Save."

By clicking on the more options icon, you can see that we have the options to pin, edit, and delete comments. This is because the option to pin comments to the top of items was enabled, as well as the option for users to edit and delete their own comments. If we click "Pin," this comment will always be above all other comments on the item.

To summarize, the Comment Options add-on allows you to create comment types as well as enable and disable comment-related features.
