In this video, I'm going to show you how to impersonate another user. This feature is available for system administrators in the support of your own users.
What you'll do is navigate to the user list, where you can filter your users and see all of them. You can also do this from the advanced view, and the user profile display allows you to impersonate from this screen. Click on the "More" option, and you'll see an option called "Impersonate."
All you need to do is click on it, and that logs you off as your previous user, Steve Thomas, and now you are logged in as Calvin C. You will also see that there's an indication up here that shows who you are logged in as—"Imp by St," which signifies that you are impersonating that person, Steve Thomas.
Everything you do while impersonating is logged. If you take action for another user, that information is recorded. This allows you to keep track of when system administrators are impersonating users.
While I'm impersonating, if I need to mark some tasks off because this user didn't do it, I can actually act as Calvin while still being myself. However, this feature is primarily used to help troubleshoot when you are supporting users.
When you are done impersonating, to stop, you simply choose "Stop Impersonating." This action takes you back to where you were before, and it logs you out as that user. Now, I'm back to my original account.
This is the impersonate feature, and as I showed you before, it's also available through the icon on the user profile. The process is the same: I can click on it, impersonate that user, and if I want to stop, I can simply select "Stop Impersonating."
Thank you.
