Overview
In a project, there are two different percent complete calculations - % Complete and Percent Complete (Duration). Each is a select-able column in the display options of the Task List and also on project and task reports. The difference between the two is easy to understand.
So, what's the difference?
The % Complete (% Comp is the column name) is the normal % complete you're used to seeing. It is based on completed (or accomplished) hours and the total work hours. The calculation is the Task/Project completed hours divided by the total work hours.
Percent Complete (Duration) will calculate the Task/ Project completed duration divided by the total duration.
Ok, do you have an example?
For sure, here's a really simple example using a project with two tasks:
- Task 1: Duration is 8 Days, has 2 Work Hours and is 100% complete
- Task 2: Duration is 2 Days, has 8 Work Hours and is 0% complete
In total, we have two tasks with a total duration of 10 days & 10 total work hours
Calcs at the project level (it's the same calc at the task level):
- % Comp is 2 Work Hours Completed / 10 Total Work Hours = the project is 20% complete
- Percent Complete (Duration) is 8 Duration Days Completed / 10 Total Duration Days = the project's duration is 80% complete
Here's how it looks in PI...
