The Bulk Task Editor lets project managers update multiple tasks at the same time from the Project Insight task list. Select the tasks you want to change, open Bulk Edit, choose the values to update, and save the changes across all selected tasks.
How do I bulk edit tasks in Project Insight?
- Open the project task list.
- Check the boxes next to the tasks you want to update.
- Open the task list menu.
- Select Bulk Edit.
- Choose the task fields and values you want to change.
- Select Save.
Project Insight refreshes the selected tasks and applies the changes to each one.
How do I select tasks for bulk editing?
The task selection boxes and Bulk Edit menu are available on the left side of every project task list, regardless of which task columns are currently displayed.
Check the box beside each task you want to update. You can also open the menu in the upper-left corner of the task list to use one of the available selection options.

Selection options include:
- Check All
- Uncheck All
- Check only Summary Tasks
- Check only Non-Summary Tasks
Can I open Bulk Edit with a right-click?
Yes. After selecting one or more tasks, right-click within the task list to open the available task actions and select Bulk Edit.
You can use either the task list menu or the right-click menu to open the Bulk Task Editor.
What happens when I change a value in the Bulk Task Editor?
Any value you change in the Bulk Task Editor is applied to all selected tasks. Fields you leave unchanged retain their existing values.
Review the selected tasks carefully before saving so you do not overwrite a value that should remain different between tasks.
How do I assign several tasks to one person?
Select the tasks, open Bulk Edit, and choose the person in the Task Owner field. Select Save to assign that person as the owner of every selected task.
For example, if three tasks should all be assigned to Eric, select those three tasks, choose Eric as the task owner, and save the bulk edit.
Can I add or remove resources from multiple tasks?
Yes. The Bulk Task Editor includes options to add or remove resources across all selected tasks. This is useful when a team member joins or leaves a group of tasks or when several tasks need the same additional resources.
Adding a resource does not necessarily change the task owner. Use the appropriate resource or task owner field based on the assignment you want to make.
What task fields can I update in bulk?
Available fields may depend on your Project Insight configuration, installed add-ons, permissions, and custom fields. Common bulk-edit fields include:
- Work Hours
- Work Status
- Start Date
- End Date
- Duration
- Constraint Type
- Resource Type
- Summary Task
- Predecessor
- Task Owner
- Task Type
- Sprint
- Expense Code
- Time Code
- CapEx/OpEx
- Visibility
- Task Name
- Additional Resources
- Custom Fields
Can I set the same predecessor for multiple tasks?
Yes. Select the tasks that should share the dependency, open the Bulk Task Editor, and set the same predecessor for all selected tasks.
Review the resulting schedule after saving because adding a predecessor can change the dates of every selected successor task.
How do I save the bulk changes?
After selecting the new values, select Save. Project Insight applies the updates and refreshes the task list.
Depending on the Bulk Task Editor view you are using, you may also see the selected task list update within the editor as changes are made. Select Done when you have finished reviewing the updates.
When should I use the Bulk Task Editor?
Use Bulk Edit when multiple tasks need the same update, such as:
- Assigning several tasks to the same task owner
- Adding or removing a resource from a group of tasks
- Changing task status across a project phase
- Updating dates, duration, or work hours
- Applying a task type, sprint, time code, or expense code
- Setting the same visibility or CapEx/OpEx value
- Updating a custom field across multiple tasks
Bulk editing can save time and reduce repetitive data entry when the same change must be made across many tasks.
Common mistakes when bulk editing tasks
- Selecting more tasks than intended before opening Bulk Edit
- Changing a field that should remain different between the selected tasks
- Confusing the task owner with an additional assigned resource
- Updating dates or predecessors without reviewing the resulting schedule
- Forgetting to save the changes before closing the editor
