Project Insight Microsoft 365 Outlook App – Project Insight Help Center

With Project Insight for Outlook, you can:

Create tasks and issues directly from an email
Add email attachments to tasks and issues
Store email attachments in your document repository
Sign in to Outlook using your existing PI workspace name or create a FREE Project Insight workspace to get started.

Outlook Security Scopes Required

The Project Insight App in Outlook will require access to these Security Scopes in order to function

Security Scope	Purpose	Feature Usage
offline_access	To avoid requiring users to re-authenticate over long sessions	Maintains session authentication
openid	Required for basic OpenID authentication	Required for SSO authentication with Entra ID
profile	Allows receiving metadata on the user's profile in the OpenID token	Allows mapping of Project Insight users to Entra ID users
email	Used to obtain the user's email address as part of the authentication process	Allows mapping of Project Insight users to Entra ID users
User.Read	Read basic information from the user's profile	This permission enables the add-in to: Identify the authenticated user. Associate Outlook activity with the appropriate Project Insight user account. Support Microsoft Graph authentication and authorization processes. The add-in does not modify user profile information
Mail.Read	Used to read email messages and attachments that the user explicitly selects within Outlook	This permission enables the add-in to: Read email subject, sender, recipients, and message body. Read email attachments. Create Project Insight Tasks, Issues, Emails, Meeting Minutes, Actions, and Decisions from Outlook emails. Copy email content and attachments into Project Insight records. The add-in does not modify, send, or delete email messages.
Mail.Read.Shared	Used when users access emails stored in shared mailboxes to which they have been granted access	This permission enables the add-in to perform the same email processing functions described above for shared mailboxes
Calendars.ReadWrite	Used to access calendar events that the user explicitly selects within Outlook	This permission enables the add-in to: Read calendar event details including subject, attendees, organizer, dates, and description. Create or update Project Insight Tasks based on Outlook calendar events. Store and retrieve Project Insight relationship metadata on Outlook calendar events using Microsoft Graph event extensions. The add-in does not create, modify, or delete calendar appointments. Write access is used only to store Project Insight integration metadata associated with existing events
Calendars.ReadWrite .Shared	Used when users access calendar events stored in shared calendars to which they have been granted access	This permission enables the add-in to perform the same calendar integration functions described above for shared calendars
