Overview
Use the Teams integration to access Project Insight directly inside Microsoft Teams, create tasks from chat messages, and keep volunteers focused in one tool.
Prerequisites
Project Insight workspace prefix.
Security Requirements
The Project Insight Teams app must have access to these security scopes in order to function
| Security Scope | Purpose |
|---|---|
| offline_access | To avoid requiring users to re-authenticate over long sessions |
| User.Read | Read basic information from the user's profile |
| Chat.ReadWrite | Create tasks in Project Insight from the content of a chat message |
| ChannelMessage.Read.All | Create tasks in Project Insight from the content of a channel message |
** Customization of this add-on is an available option should your organization need reduced scope(s), or custom features.
Instructions
Installation & Setup
In Teams, go to Apps and search for Project Insight.
Install the Project Insight app.
When prompted, select Consent on behalf of organization.
4. Pin the app:
Right-click on Project Insight in the Teams navigation bar.
Select Pin.
5. Connect the app:
Enter your workspace prefix.
Sign in with PI or Microsoft SSO.
Utilization
Use PI inside Teams:
View your Work List and Project Home.
Create tasks directly from chat messages:
Hover over a message → More Actions (…) → Create Task in Project Insight.
Select the project where the task should live.
Notes
All tasks must live inside a project. Use a “Miscellaneous” or “Personal Worklist” project for general tasks.
Volunteers can work entirely in Teams while still contributing to PI projects.
Troubleshooting
If the PI app doesn’t appear after install, reload Teams.
If tasks don’t sync, check that you selected a project during task creation.
