Folder Advanced Display

Display settings, most commonly applied to folders, have options as to which interface is used navigating the list of items within the folder view. To simplify the explanation of how these settings are used, they are documented in reference to their usage in folder displays.

Tree will display the contents of the folder with expand and collapse options to the left of any item in the list which contains at least one child item. An example would be a sub-folder in the list which contains one or more files. Expanding the folder will display the contents of the sub-folder without navigating away from the current folder list view. 

List will display a list of the contents without allowing the expand and collapse options.

List with Page Spanning offers additional options to the list view which are often necessary for folders containing large quantities of child items. For example, a folder may contain 300 file uploads which would make for a very long page display and slow page refresh performance in all but the very highest performance Internet connections. Setting the list to show only 25 items at a time will dramatically improve the usability of the page. First letter name search and text search can provide further ease of use. In the example below, all page spanning and search options are in use on a folder which contains anywhere from 76 to 100 items (four spanning pages).
