Project Insight for Gmail lets you create tasks and issues, save emails to Project Insight, and open Project Insight without leaving Gmail. Follow the steps below to install the add-on and authorize your Google account.
Install Project Insight for Gmail
- Open Gmail in a web browser.
Click the plus sign (+) in the right-side panel.
In the Google Workspace Marketplace, search for Project Insight.
Select Project Insight for Gmail™ from the search results.
- Click Install.
In the Get ready to install window, click Continue.
Select or enter the Google account you want to connect.
Follow Google’s prompts to review the requested access and complete the installation.
Google may ask you to confirm your account and review the information that Project Insight is requesting permission to access. The Gmail address you are connecting has to be the same as the user in Project Insight.
Grant permission in Gmail
The first time you open the add-on, Gmail may require an additional authorization step.
- Return to Gmail and open an email.
- Click the Project Insight icon in the right-side panel.
- When the panel displays Permission required, click Grant permission.
- Select the Google account you want to connect.
- Review the access request and click Continue.
- Return to Gmail. If the Project Insight panel does not refresh automatically, close and reopen it.
Open the Project Insight panel
- Open an email in Gmail.
- Click the Project Insight icon in the right-side panel.
The Project Insight panel opens beside the email.
Once authorized, the panel displays the following options:
- Create Task: Create a Project Insight task from the email.
- Create Issue: Create a Project Insight issue from the email.
- Save Email to PI: Save the email information to Project Insight.
- Go to PI: Open Project Insight in a new browser window.
Troubleshoot permission requests
If the Project Insight panel continues to display Permission required:
- Confirm that you selected the same Google account used to install the add-on.
- Complete all Google authorization prompts.
- Close and reopen the Project Insight panel.
- Refresh Gmail and open the panel again.
- Ask your Google Workspace administrator whether Marketplace add-ons are restricted for your organization.
Best practices
- Install the add-on using the Google account you normally use with Gmail.
- Confirm that you are connecting the intended Google and Project Insight accounts.
- Review Google’s access request before approving it.
- Open an email before clicking the Project Insight icon.
- Contact your Google Workspace administrator if installation or authorization is blocked.
