This guide is to provide helpful information to set up and configure the Jira Integration for Project Insight. First, it's important to know that the mapping for Users, Statuses, Types, Fields, and settings are all controlled in the Add-On for the Jira Integration. This is accessible by any System Administrator on the Breakthrough team.
Step 1: create a project in Project Insight
- This may be creating a project from an Intake form (Project Request) or directly from the Project Home.
- [OPTIONAL] Choose Template to get the default Agile tasks that could be sent from Project Insight to Jira. With no Template chosen, the project will be created with no tasks, a blank slate.
Step 2a: connect project to one Jira Epic
- Pick the center integration option to map to a Jira Epic.
- First, choose the correct Jira Project first, then select the corresponding Epic under the Project to map to.
- Second, connect.
Step 2b: connect project to multiple Jira Epics
- Pick the third integration option to map to multiple Jira Epics
- First, choose the correct Jira Project first
- Second, connect.
Step 3: configure Jira integration
- Now the project has been mapped!
- Before leaving this page, make sure to scroll down and verify the configurations.
- All the settings under Jira to Project Insight section will inherit from the global Jira Add-On settings.
- [OPTIONAL] turn off Comments from Jira to Project Insight to prevent Comments from coming from Jira to Project Insight.
- However, the settings under Project Insight to Jira section need one configuration. Select all the Task Types under the dropdown “Filter PI Tasks with this Task Type”.
- Before leaving this page, hit Save.
Step 4: (one time) resync the project the first time you connect it to Jira
- A resync is required the first time it is connected, or anytime you make a configuration change. This step synchronizes the data between Jira and Project Insight.
Step 5: update the project Task List’s Layout to the Jira View
- This ensures that you are seeing all columns that are pertinent to the Jira integration.
Step 6: make updates to Project Insight tasks or Jira to get event-based updates via integration
- Columns like the “Link” show you the task in Project Insight is connected to Jira.
- Clicking into the task’s detail page also shows full information from Jira.
Step 7: sending tasks from Project Insight to Jira
- Since the integration configuration for Project Insight to Jira is only sending tasks tagged with one of the following Task Types, any task without one of these Task Types will not get sent from Project Insight to Jira.
- For example, check out the Agile Template in Breakthrough’s workspace. This template has tasks tagged with Task Types, which will send those tasks to Jira after performing the necessary integration Steps 1-4 in this document in a live project.
