Filters let you control what information appears on a page in Project Insight. You can filter the items shown, choose which columns appear, and arrange those columns to fit the way you work.
You can then save the filtered view as a layout and quickly switch between layouts. Although this article uses the Time Entry Grid as an example, filters and layouts are available on almost every page in Project Insight.
How Do Filters and Layouts Work?
The Filter option changes what appears in the current view. The Layout option saves that view, including its filters and columns, so you can return to it later.
For example, you can save one Time Entry Grid layout that includes tasks, issues, to-dos, and proposals, and another layout that shows tasks only.
Save the Current View as a Layout
- Open the page you want to customize.
- Select Layout.
- Select Manage Layouts.
- Select the option to save the current layout.
- Enter a name for the layout.
- Select Save.
- Select OK.
In the video example, the original Time Entry Grid view is saved as Tasks, Issues, To-Dos, and Proposals.
Filter the Time Entry Grid to Show Tasks Only
- Open the Time Entry Grid.
- Select Filter in the upper-right corner.
- Disable time entries for other item types.
- Leave tasks enabled.
This removes issues, proposals, and to-dos from the Time Entry Grid.
Add Columns to the Filtered View
- Open the column selection options in the filter.
- Add the columns you want to display.
- In this example, add Description and End Date.
- Select Refresh.
The refreshed view shows only tasks and includes the selected task information.
Save the Tasks-Only Layout
- Select Layout.
- Select Manage Layouts.
- Select the option to save the current layout.
- Name the layout Tasks Only.
- Select Save.
- Select OK.
Add and Rearrange a Column
- While viewing the Tasks Only layout, open the filter options.
- Select Insert.
- Search for Start Date.
- Select Start Date.
- Select Insert.
- Click and drag the Start Date column header to the preferred location.
In the video, the Start Date column is placed directly before the End Date column.
Save Changes to an Existing Layout
After changing the filters, adding columns, or rearranging columns, save the layout again to keep the changes.
- Select Layout.
- Select Manage Layouts.
- Save the current layout again.
Switch Between Saved Layouts
- Select Layout.
- Select the layout you want to use.
Select Tasks, Issues, To-Dos, and Proposals to return to the original view. Select Tasks Only to return to the filtered task view.
