Quickly Add/Manage Tasks--faster than Excel or MS Project!
PI® has a hidden Task list gem called "Bulk Edit". Whether you're building out a quick To-Do that you haven't decided who's doing what yet, or if you want to assign items to be due by a certain date... you no longer have to go one-at-a-time to set up your tasks.
Use Case: "Sprints"
A really common action is to set the End Dates farther out to a group of items. In Agile parlance, this is known as a "sprint"... where you're going to attempt to accomplish all the work in a given period.
You'll notice, after you've generated a series of tasks, the End Date defaults to the same day it was created:
This sets up our Bulk Edit opportunity!
Step 1 - Create your list of items
As you can see in this Star Wars Project, I quickly add line items by typing in the first item, and then simply keep typing as the focus goes to the next line. The trick is NOT to worry about anything but just getting your list out.
Step 2 - Locate the Multi-selector icon at the top-left corner of your Task List
You'll notice an icon at the top-left corner with multiple checkboxes with lines. If you click that icon, you will be presented the actions you can perform on the list.
Step 3 - "Check All" from the drop-down list
As it suggests, selecting the "Check All" line will select all your checkboxes for you in the list. This can be extremely handy when there are many items to adjust:
Step 4 - Bulk Edit your Items
Once your items are selected, go back to the multi-selector icon and click it again. This time, choose "Bulk Edit".
Step 5 - Assign Values to your Task List
As you can see there are a variety of things you can adjust at once. In this use case, select an appropriate End Date that you want your Sprint to end. Also, this is a good time to assign users so that these tasks show up in their Notifications feed, their PI App, their Slack integrations, and email alerts:
