Auto-Alert Notifications Not Received in Test to Self

We often test auto-alert notifications by sending them to ourselves, however, this method often fails to be a valid test. The auto-alert logs the user making a change and won't send an alert to that user.

For example, an email notification is set to notify me of any new items added to a documents folder. I upload five new documents to that folder and it will not send me five email notifications. Another user with that same alert on that same folder will be notified via email.

To test, you can either notify another user, have another user make the change, or use an auto-alert email notification to an email address as opposed to a user. Email address notifications do not check user profiles for matching addresses so those notifications will go to the email address even if it is the same as the email address in your user-profile. In my previous example with the documents folder, notifying the email address which is in my user profile instead of me as a user will send the email notification.
