Employee Network Stream

    I have seen customers do something similar by setting up a folder for articles. In your example, it could be a folder called "Employee Network" in the root level of the system so that it shows up in the left navigation. You can make a shortcut to it in the left navigation as well if you'd like it in a sub folder or if you want it to launch in a new tab.

    Set the Items Allowed in the folder so that it only allows the item types you want employees to use in it, such as articles and file uploads. Next, set a couple of auto-alerts/notifications for just that folder to notify everybody in your company as to new items and new comments added into the folder.
