Projects and Tasks Add-On - Summary Task Options

Overview of configurations on the Projects and Tasks Add-On specific to Summary Tasks. These checkboxes enable Related Items and Descriptions on Summary Tasks to also appear on their child tasks.

This video will walk through the summary task options found underneath the Projects and Tasks add-on configuration. Now, scrolling back down to the summary task options, there are two checkboxes that are defaulted to on.

The first checkbox will set all child tasks to show any related items that their summary task or parent task has attached to it. If we go to a project example, I will attach a related item to my "Planning and Control" summary task. Doing so will also attach that exact same related item to all of its children. So, if we go into "Planning and Control" and scroll down to related items, I have an XLS Excel file attached to my summary task.

Going back out to my task list, I can go into any of these other child tasks, and you will see that the same new export Excel file is attached to all of its child tasks.

Going back to the add-on summary task options, the second checkbox does the exact same thing, but with the description. Whatever description is entered on the summary task will also appear on its child tasks as well. So, if I go back to this same summary task and do a full edit, I will include the description: "This is a summary task description." I will hit save, and now let's take a look at one of its child tasks. You will see that it tells me where that description is coming from; it's coming from the "Planning and Control" summary task, and that’s the description right there.

You will also note that I have another description from the conceptual summary task, which is from the upper summary task, "Conceptual." Even though I have a description from the summary task, I can still add a description onto this individual task by clicking here and adding, "This is my task description." Those are some of the examples of what you can do using the summary task options underneath the Projects and Tasks add-on.
