Items properties are used for a few of the most common basic settings in an item. The settings in this example are for a folder, which is given a name in this General tab. Items which are not folders have this general tab, but it's rare that any settings are changed in it for non-folder item types.
Name is the name label for the folder. This data input field displays only for folders because other types of items must be named prior to access this interface for changing the item's properties.
NOTE: If the folder is being added by a User, Name is the only field available for viewing and data entry. The following fields and tabs are not visible to Users, only to User Managers and Content Managers.
Is Master Folder is used to define the folder as a reporting container. For example, a folder named "Application Deployments" can be used as a master folder so that project portfolio reporting can report all projects within the entire sub-item structure of this folder as Application Deployment projects. If this item is not a folder or it is a child of an already defined master folder this data field will display as read-only.
Note: Master folders should not be used as a replacement for Project Types because the folder structure for any particular organization may not lend itself particularly well to this type of structure. Folder structure based on permission requirements should always take precedence over the use of master folders for reporting.
Default Quick View sets the default column display within the folder. Global quick views, which must be created by system administrators, are also available in this drop-down to control the default column settings for all users. Users may choose to change the settings in their own personal column displays if they prefer not to use the default view which from this setting.
Navigation allows this item to be set as visible in the left navigation parent/child folder tree interface. This setting will not work if the parent item is not also set to display in navigation or if the user does not have read access to the parent item. Items at the root level of the tree structure will display in the left navigation regardless of this settings selection.
